RE: Ford F450 and CA Comercial Vehicle Registration

Here's what I experienced here in PA...
It ended by me saying the heck with it.....and having the title redone to remove the combined towing rating and lowering the weight class to a class "6" which for us is 14000# to 17000#, not the 33000# it's good for.
Here in PA the fines go up in $$ just because you have a higher weight class.

Sorry to hear your difficulties. Bring it up to Farnsworth in Elysburg.......SUPER People!
I counted Grumbines out when they wouldn't return my calls when I was looking to buy!

RE: has anyone else thought of cancelling a trip?

We'll be at Myrtle Beach this 4th of July also.....and it's 12hrs for us. And that will be after towing first to Fla for a week.
Like stated earlier, we'll just enjoy the "Free" stuff and lighten up in other areas like eating out a few times less.
We opt'd for a "Seasonal" site at a local CG this year, so we are saving $$ by not having to tow somewhere each weekend. The extra $$ will go toward the Myrtle Beach excursion this summer.

RE: Registration Mix-up?

OK.....here's my read. Cause I want it to go this way, lol
"and the weight of any permanently or temporarily attached appurtenances"
Appurtenances "Appendage, a subordinate part or Accessory Object"
My 5th wheel Pin box is the "Appurtenance" which weighs about 2,200#....I do not place the entire 16,000# 5er in the bed of the truck.
"Every Truck shall have it's own registered gross weight and may also be registered at a registered gross weight for a combination."
MAY ALSO BE.....does not state I shall or Must register at combination.
The Troopers agreed, it is NOT a weight class 10 (33,000#)situation nor should I be registered at that, more over a Weight class 6 (14,001 - 17,000#) is the most approperiate class as the Vehicles "Maximum Registered Gross weight" from the Manufacturer is 14,500#

RE: Registration Mix-up?

Folks.........here's the Latest 4-21-08
Well, as I suspected........still No response from Harrisburg.
Yesterday 4-20-08 I did visit the State Police station in Bloomsburg, Pa. I explained my situation and the Troopers on duty were very helpful as they took time to break out the "Short Guide" of their code book as well as vehicle code book and begin searching. Any way, long story longer.....here is their take on it all.
Page 687 75 Pa.C.S 1305
Section (e)
MININUM REGISTERED GROSS WEIGHT-
No truck, truck tractor or trailer shall be registered at less than the total of the weight of the unladen vehicle, the maximum weight of the proposed load, the equivalent weight of the fuel capacity, 150 pounds times the seating capacity, and the weight of any permanently or temporarily attached appurtenances.
Section (f)
REGISTERED GROSS WEIGHT OF TRUCKS AND TRUCK TRACTORS-
Every Truck shall have it's own registered gross weight and may also be registered at a registered gross weight for a combination. Every Truck Tractor shall be registered at a registered gross weight for a combination.
The Troopers stated that, after physically looking at my truck and based on the Vehicle registration and licensing article above, I could be registered any where from what my truck ACTUALLY weighs plus persons, fuel etc up to the Vehicles maximum registered gross weight from the manufacturer of 14,500#.
Assuming my truck actually weighs in at 9000# and I expect no "temporarily attached appurtenances" My weight class would be 4A @ $198 annually.
Should I deside to register at the manufacturers maximum gross vehicle weight of 14,500#, this would equate to a weight class 6 (14,001 - 17,000) for an annual fee of $288.......A far cry from $567 for a weight class 10 that PADOT states I have to be registered at.
I explained my position that the truck is only rated to carry "X" amount, regardless whether the load is a 5th wheel pin weight or a load of cow manure......at which they laughed, but agreed!
Another unknown fact that should drive you to be correctly registered is the Fine should you be caught unregistered.....For instance, you forget to mail in your registration on time or your just plain over run on dates...
Fine for weight class 6; $576, doubled if over 60 days
Fine for weight class 10; $1,134, doubled if over 60 days
The Troopers advise was to contact our State Representitive, outline the issue and seek his assistance in getting correction and refund!.
I apologize for the length of this post and the time between updates...just took awhile to put it together.

We also have the 200 Weber, found it at a Sears "Damaged Box" Parts Store for insanely low $$$(the cart was new and we got it for $16 at the same store). Regardless we love it!

RE: pirateland,sc

We too stayed there a few years back......the inland sites are very close. At that time I had a 32' TT and it was snug.
Beach sites were larger, but packed quite tight none the less.
We've found Myrtle Beach Travl Park to be Superior for nice sites and Apache the worse.

RE: Ford F350 Diesel

IMHO you'd be better to step back a couple years and get a nice 2001 7.3
I had a 1999 that was awesome, 11-12 towing my 5er and 15-16 empty, but power! omg IT WAS A HOSS!
I sold it for an 08 F450 and this truck eats more than a teenager!

Leaving PA June 19th for Salt Springs Fla. Staying a week then heading back up to Myrtle Beach Travl Park for two weeks returning home July 13th.
Was a good idea before Diesel hit $4.37/gallon....Just takes a bigger bite than we planned on. Oh well......

Nice to be able to bounce thoughts off folks first before a "Major" investment. You just got into a new truck too did you not? How's that working?
